Nigerian Afrobeat sensation, Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley has been found guilty of breaking the Covid-19 Regulation, 2020.
Naira Marley on the 13th of June 2020, flew from Lagos to Abuja on a non essential trip thereby violating the Covid-19 Regulation of 2020 made by Presidential order, pursuant to Section 4 of the Quarantine Act Cap 02, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.
The Marlian president attended a concert in Abuja not minding the lockdown rules and regulations guiding social gathering in the country at that time.
The singer and song writer was arraigned on a 4 count charge in a mobile court headed by Justice Idayat Akanni at the Eagle’s square in Abuja.
Naira Marley pleaded guilty and was fined the sum of =N= 50,000 on each count and was asked to publish an apology to the federal government in any print medium.
Multiple brushes with the law
Akatarian gathered that Naira Marley also violated Covid-19 lockdown rules in April of 2020, when he attendeda birthday party of Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele’s husband at her residence.
Naira Marley who has over 3 million followers on instagram has repeatedly violated the rules and regulations guiding Covid lock down in the country.
He advised Nigerians to pray for individuals who engaged themselves in fraudulent activities rather than condemn them. His hit song “Am I a yahoo boy” followed.
Naira Marley is currently awaiting trial for credit card fraud. Charges for assault and theft against the Marlian president was dropped earlier this year.
Barely 24hrs after being found guilty of violating Covid 19 rules and regulations, he posted on his social media that “from now on, I am the only person allowed to waste my time”.
