The assailant, Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, fired eight rounds from an AR-15-style rifle from a rooftop near the rally site. Crooks was subsequently shot and killed by the United States Secret Service’s counter-sniper team.
