They would have transitioned were it not for Nigeria’s anti-same sex marriage law, which alienated lesbians, gays, bisexual, and transgender, LGBT since 2014. But cross dressers in Nigeria have become popular social media icons and are followed by millions of Nigerians.
Nigeria’s population of cross dressers has grown significantly since the 1970s when popular cross dresser known as Area Scatter captivated royalty and subjects of Eastern Nigeria.
Nigeria’s love for cross dressers and transgenders contradicts the country’s religious profile. But that does not soften its stance on LGBT people, only in secret. Hypocrisy? Perhaps.
