The highly anticipated Afrofestival Ottawa began today at Mooney’s Bay Park, bringing a vibrant showcase of African culture, music, and art to the heart of the Nation’s Capital. Despite a rainy start to Saturday, September 7, 2024, festival-goers were treated to an exciting atmosphere as the skies cleared and the celebration took off.

Hosted by Africa Live Canada, this free two-day event will run through Sunday, September 8, 2024, offering a perfect weekend for families, friends, and culture lovers to immerse themselves in the rich and diverse heritage of African Canadians. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy live performances, mouth-watering food, arts, crafts, and much more in one of Ottawa’s most scenic spots!

Although the afternoon and evening remained chilly, with attendees donning jackets and sweaters, the spirit of the festival was undampened.The festival grounds were alive with the sounds of both live performances and DJ selections, creating an electrifying atmosphere. Vendors in colorful canopies displayed their wares, offering a variety of African food, clothes, and crafts. The aroma of authentic African cuisine filled the air, tempting festival-goers to indulge in delicious treats.

Children had a blast with the bouncing castle and other play structures, adding to the family-friendly vibe of the event.

Security was a priority, with police presence ensuring safety and festival officials conducting searches at the entrance to prevent any prohibited items from being brought in. Only those who registered and had tickets were admitted, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all.Compared to the 2023 edition, where the summer weather was still in full swing, this year’s festival had a different feel due to the cooler temperatures.
