The American Music Award, AMA was held on Sunday 22nd of November 2020 at the Microsoft Theatre, Los Angeles, California.
Hollywood star, Taraji P Henson, hosted this year’s award. The star dazzled the very few audiences with 12 different outfits in the course of the show.
She could not hide her excitement about the event during her opening speech. According to her, she is happy to be away from her home following Covid-19 restrictions.
The AMA introduced new categories. These are Favourite Male Artist and Favourite Female Artist (Rap/Hip Hop), Favourite Male Artist and Favourite Female Artist, Favourite Album and Favourite Song (Latin).
The award, which aims at recognizing the most popular artists from a variety of music genres, this year featured cardboard cutouts of the creme de la creme in the US entertainment space. Such personalities are Dolly Parton and Beyonce.
This year’s most-nominated artists are “The Weeknd” and “Roddy Ricch” with eight nominations each. Megan Thee Stallion, Hip Hop artist is second on the list with five nominations. Also, artists like Da baby and Doja Cat were first time nominees.
Artists with the most awards were Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and Dan + Shay & Justin Bieber with three awards each.
Taylor Swift, 30 yrs old country musician now has an all-time record of 30 awards in the history of AMA. The star who accepted her award online thanked her fans for their continuous support even when they are far apart.
Taylor also disclosed that she is currently re-recording all her songs.
Another highlight of the show was the performances by several artists. Artists from various genres of music adorned the night with heartwarming and energetic performances.
BTS, Doja Cat, and Bebe Rexha, Lil Baby, Dan + Shay, The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, Nelly, Justin Bieber, Megan Thee Stallion, and a host of other artists.
The organizers of the show took great precautions in ensuring the safety of the people in attendance. Due to the ravaging Coronavirus, facial coverings were made compulsory for everyone inside the venue. Anyone entering the premises was tested in advance for COVID.
